Scale & Clean
One of the major causes of tooth loss is gum disease. Our goal is for you to keep your teeth for life.
Gum disease is relatively painless in the early stages, you may notice signs such as bleeding when brushing, receding, red or puffy gums, a build up of tartar or stained teeth. Gum disease can also cause bad breath.
If left untreated, the more aggressive form called periodontal disease can occur. This causes the bone surrounding the teeth to become infected, resulting in loosening of the teeth, which may eventually need to be extracted.
Gum disease affects children and adults but is fully preventable with early diagnosis and regular maintenance treatments.
Flossing and brushing at home twice a day is recommended to remove harmful bacteria and prevent plaque build up. To remove the hardened tartar build up we recommend you visit us for your routine scale and clean every 6-12 months (your dentist will advise on the ideal frequency of your visits).
